This move automatically switches the user out after attacking; the party member sent out as replacement is chosen by the player.
U-Turn will not switch the user out if the user is the last party member available to battle, if the use of the move would end the battle, if the move misses, or if the target's ability prevents damage from being dealt.
In a Trainer battle, if this move KOs the opponent's Pokémon, the user decides which Pokémon to send out, then the opponent decides.
If the targeted Pokémon uses Pursuit on the same turn, then Pursuit's effect will trigger on the U-Turn user before it can switch out, but only if the Pursuit user is slower than the U-turn user.
U-Turn can be used to escape the effects of moves and abilities that prevent switching (e.g. Ingrain, Block, Shadow Tag), with the exception of partial trapping moves like Fire Spin and Whirlpool.
In a triple battle, this move may target anyone facing or adjacent to the user.
