On the first turn of this move's use, the user enters a semi-invulnerable state akin to that of Fly or Bounce. While in this state, no attacks can hit the user (not even moves that otherwise never miss, such as Swift), with some exceptions.
On the next turn, the user returns to ground level and inflicts damage to the target. If successful, this move has a 10% chance of confusing the target. This move will not need a charging turn if the user is holding a Power Herb, or is under the effects of Gigacharge. Airborne Pokemon still take damage from any harmful status they may have, any harmful weather conditions that may be present, and from recurrent damage from moves like Wrap and Fire Spin. Other than that the user is effectively immune to all attacks, with the exceptions of Sky Uppercut, Hurricane, Thunder, Gust, Whirlwind, Twister, Smack Down, Aerial Virus and any Wind-Type move. Gust and Twister's base power doubles against airborne Pokémon, and Smack Down cancels the move immediately after striking. Any move may hit the user provided they have been targeted by Lock Onor Mind Reader prior to executing Wind Surf, or if the attacking Pokémon has the No_Guard Ability. This move immediately ends if Gravity comes into effect mid-use, and will disable it for as long as Gravity is active. This move also immediately ends if the user succumbs to flinching, paralysis, sleep, being frozen, infatuation or confusion damage while airborne. In a triple battle, this move may target anyone other than the user. |
