This move forces airborne targets down to the ground when it hits, cancelling the effects of Magnet Rise and Telekinesis. It will also negate the immunity Flying-types and Levitating Pokémon have to Ground-type moves and the Arena Trap Abilty; this effect lasts until the affected Pokémon switches out, faints, or the battle ends (whichever comes first). Smack Down can also hit Pokémon in the semi-invulnerable turns of multi-turn aerial moves like Fly and Bounce, cancelling the move in doing so. It can also hit but not knock down Pokémon using or affected by Sky Drop. None of these effects occur if the target is behind a Substitute or if they have temporarily grounded themselves by using Roost before being hit.
In a triple battle, this move may target anyone facing or adjacent to the user.
